New project.

My friend with a book-related job gives  me a bunch of knitting and craft (and sometimes cooking) books whenever I see her. Last week we had an awesome dinner at a fancy restaurant in town, which I could not afford. But she gave me some new books–a few of which she’d given me copies of already. So I looked at them again and found some awesome projects in Twinkle’s Town and Country Knits. I picked the Stockholm Sweater and knitted a swatch with Now i Know! in Wise, a lovely gray. The pattern calls for a much lighter weight yarn–4 strands held together, knitted with a size 13 needle. My first swatch was way off, so I did another one with size 11 needles and that got pretty darn close, so I’m going with it.

I’ve sort of avoided knitting projects with any sort of pattern, unless I know I can finish them super quick. This is because I always lose track of where I am in the pattern. But since this sweater’s kinda bulky, I figured it may hold my attention span consistently. And I have my handy dandy new iphone App for counting rows and pattern repeats. It’s called Stitchminder and it was FREE. The toughest part is remembering to tap the screen after each row. But it keeps track of pattern row, and pattern repeat which is cool. I may actually finish the first sweater ever knitted for MYself.

Incidentally, I have two copies of that book and loads of other brand-new condition knitting books I’ll never get around to probably. I’ve put some up for sale on Knit for Brains, but a lot are hanging out in my Half.com inventory. My seller name is knit4brains. If you have never been to half.com, you should go and browse. You can sell your old books, movies, etc on there AND you can pick up used copies of things you’re looking for dirt cheap. Some paperbacks sell for as little as a penny I think.

I’ve added a STASH! section to KFB–yarns I’ve picked up, never used, and am now clearing out. They’re great yarns–animal-fiber free and cheapola.
