This is an adorable hat pattern, shown here in Craft Kelly (1-1/2 skeins). Pattern is from a 1946 pamphlet that has fallen into the public domain. It's deceptively simple, and makes a stylish/retro baby gift in a modern yarn.

Size: 6 months to 2 years (very stretchy, even fits my giant-noggined 3yo)
Gauge: 7 st/in, sz 2 needles.
Needles: straight needles, sizes US2 and 0 (for strap)
